This week we look at LinkedIn.com.
We look at LinkedIn posts. The next post is planned to be on June 30, 2023.
LinkedIn allows a person to write blog posts.
The blog posts will then appear in a feed that others can read.
A person may write a post about different professional career topics.
One topic a person may write about is different remote opportunities.
A reader may learn about different remote opportunities through LinkedIn posts.
Here are two ways to find out about remote opportunities through LinkedIn posts.
(1) Your Connections and Network–Are you connected with people to have a network?
On the Home page, you will find a feed listing different blog posts on LinkedIn.
The blog posts you will often come from other people in your network.
You may increase the odds of seeing remote opportunities by growing your network.
You can invite other people to belong to your LinkedIn network.
You can send out an invitation request.
You may increase the odds of people agreeing to be in your network by including a personal message. Some ideas for the personal message can be:
- You can communicate how you and the connection are related.
- Or you could mention details about the person who impressed you.
Including a personal note may increase the odds that a person will connect with you.
You may wish to connect with the following people:
- Recruiters and Human Resource professionals in the company that interests you
- Managers in the department in the company that interests you
- Recruiters and Human Resource professionals from temporary agencies. Look for recruiters that specialize in your field.
(2) Keyword Search
You may use keywords in the Keyword Search Box to find remote job opportunities on LinkedIn posts.
You may use keywords to find your next remote opportunity.
A keyword search result will, hopefully, present you with different choices.
Each choice will have brief information about the content of that choice.
You then can select that choice to get more information.
You may find search results listing sections.
A section is a group of similar choices in the search results.
Some sections could be:
- People–choices of different people who have their profiles on LinkedIn
- Posts–Blog posts people have written on LinkedIn
- Jobs–Jobs on LinkedIn
Look at the choices in the Posts section.
Hopefully, you will find a choice that interests you.
Click a choice that you like to explore further.
You will then get a description with more information.
Hopefully, you will find some descriptions with remote job opportunities that interest you.
Using the following words in your keyword search may be helpful.
- The profession you are interested in
- Remote (or similar words like Virtual)
- Careers (or similar words like jobs, occupation, or profession)
Boolean Searching
Boolean Searching rules tell your search engine how to search with the words you type in. LinkedIn uses Boolean Search rules.

Synonyms are different words that express similar meanings.
You may increase the range of your searches by using synonyms. Some synonyms you can use are:
- Professions may use synonyms to have different words to describe the profession.
- You may use synonyms to describe remote work (like using the word virtual).
- You may use synonyms to describe a career (like using the word opportunities, jobs, or profession).
You may find your next remote opportunity in a LinkedIn Blog post.
Where to Look for Remote Opportunities: Facebook groups
This week we look at Facebook groups.
We look at a feature on www.facebook.com. The next post will be on June 15th.
Always evaluate the resources that you find on the Internet.
Internet descriptions in the article are based on a laptop computer screen.
What are Facebook groups
Groups are where people come together around a particular interest.
You may find Facebook groups that have an interest in remote opportunities.
One way to find Facebook groups is to use the Facebook group search box.
You can do a keyword search to find Facebook groups.
You will need to create an account (which is free) to use many of the resources found on Facebook.
Once you have an account, click the “Groups” icon on the top part of the screen.
Facebook Group Itself
In the group section, you will see a Facebook groups search box on the left side of the screen.
You can type in words in the group search box and then get choice results (hopefully) on the right side of the screen. You can click on a particular choice result to get more information.
You may find three different Facebook groups to be of interest;
(1) Remote-Focused Facebook Groups
You may find Facebook groups focused on remote opportunities.
You can type in terms like “remote,” “remote jobs,” or “remote careers” in a Facebook Search Group Box to search for remote opportunities.
An example of a Remote-Focused Facebook group can be:

(2) Location-Focused Facebook Groups
You may find Facebook groups that focus on giving opportunities in a particular location.
You may find remote opportunities in a particular area.
You can search the name of a particular location in a Facebook Group Search Box and add the terms “jobs” or “career.”

(3) Professional Focused Facebook Groups
You may find Facebook groups focusing on opportunities in a particular profession.
You may find remote opportunities.
You can type in words of your profession in a Facebook Group Search Box and add the terms “jobs” or “career.”
An example of a Professional Focused Facebook Group can be:

Search Function Within A Facebook Group
You may find job-related posts within a Facebook group using the search function.
The search function can help you search for posts posted in a Facebook group.
You may display posts that focus on a particular topic.
You may display posts that focus on remote opportunities.
How to find the search function in a Facebook group:
- Look for the magnifying glass symbol in the upper right corner of the screen.
- Click the magnifying glass symbol.
(This will open up a small screen with a search box.
You can do a keyword search in the search box to search for posts within that Facebook group).
- You can type in terms like “remote” and employment terms like “job” or “career” in the search box.
- Ideally, you will then get a listing of posts having information on remote opportunities.
Google Boolean Search Features For Facebook Groups
You may wish to use Boolean search features when you do a keyword search.
Boolean search features can give you options on how to search for words.
For example, you can do a phrase search with quotes around the word phrase.
Google gives you Boolean search options to find Facebook groups.

LinkedIn is a website helping people with their business and career needs. You may connect with other professionals and find your next remote job opportunity with LinkedIn.
LinkedIn groups can allow you to find remote opportunities and connections with professionals. LinkedIn groups are where groups of people gather in a particular interest area.
Boolean Search features in a Keyword Search
You can use keyword search to find LinkedIn groups.
You may enhance the search with Boolean search features.

You can use Boolean search features to help focus your search.
When searching for remote opportunities with LinkedIn groups, you may be interested in two different interest areas.
(1) Remote Focused
Remove-focused LinkedIn groups provide information on remote opportunities and the remote industry. One way to find Remote Focused LinkedIn groups is the following way:
- Go to LinkedIn
- Create an account
- Create a profile
- Find the search box (on a computer laptop, the search box will be in the upper left corner of the screen.)
- Type in the word “remote”
- You will then get different search results
- You can narrow your search results to LinkedIn groups by using search feature categories. Search feature categories give you additional options to focus your search. Some of the different search feature categories are:
- Jobs
- Companies
- Products
- People
- Post
- Groups
- Services
- Events
- Courses
- Schools
- All Filter
You can use the “Groups” search feature category to focus your search results on LinkedIn groups.
- Your search results have LinkedIn groups have the word “remote” in them. Many of these LinkedIn groups may provide you with information about remote opportunities. When I played with this feature, I found about 5,800 results. You may narrow your search using words in your profession. For example, type “Remote AND Trainer” (AND has to be in all caps), and you will find results that have both terms “remote” and “trainer.”
(2) Professional Specialty
You can also look for LinkedIn groups by professional specialty. Look for LinkedIn groups that are in your profession. Professional Specialty LinkedIn groups focus on topics and opportunities found in that profession. You may find remote opportunities in Professional Specialty LinkedIn groups.
LinkedIn Groups–Evaluate them
Evaluate the LinkedIn group. You can look at the number of members and the group’s description. When you enter a LinkedIn group, you may want to “listen” to the group by reading the posts to understand better how the LinkedIn group operates.
You may find your next remote opportunity by looking at a LinkedIn group. A LinkedIn group may help you find your next remote opportunity.

The “#open to work” feature may not be helpful for everyone.
If you are employed and do not want your current employer to know you’re looking for another position, you may not want to use the “#open to work” feature. You may not want to communicate with your current employer that you’re seeking other opportunities.
What is LinkedIn?
LinkedIn is a social media site specializing in helping people connect with other business professionals and helping people find remote opportunities.
LinkedIn profile
One feature LinkedIn has that can help job seekers is the LinkedIn profile.
The LinkedIn profile is a specialized web page on the LinkedIn website where you can list your career-related information. The career-related information can include your:
- Career Interests
- Past/Current Employment History
- Pass/Current Educational History
- Skills
- Recommendations
- Publications
- Courses
- Honors/Awards
The LinkedIn profile is a bulletin board. The LinkedIn profile bulletin board can advertise to potential employers how you can contribute to their success.
You can let potential employers know you are interested in opportunities using the “#open to work” feature.
The LinkedIn profile gives you a circle profile picture of yourself.
When you use the “#open to work” feature, you can display a green bar with the white letters phrase “#open to work” on your circle profile picture of yourself.
You can communicate with the potential employer that you are interested in opportunities.
Here’s how to use the “#open to work” feature:
- Go to LinkedIn.
- Log into your existing account or create a new account.
- Complete your LinkedIn profile.
- Underneath your circle profile picture and a brief description of yourself, you will find an “Open To” curved circle box.
- Click the “Open To” curved circle box.
- You would then get a short menu of options.
- Select the option that says.
“Finding a new job: show recruiters and others that you’re open to work.”
You will then get another screen that says “add job preferences.”
You can put in the job features that you’re looking for.
Some of the job features can be:
- Job Titles you are looking for
- Start Date
- Job Type
- Workplace
Under the “Workplace” option, you can show an interest in a remote position.
At the bottom, you can select “All LinkedIn Members” if you want everyone to see that you’re looking for remote opportunities. You will then get the “#open to work” phrase to appear on your circle professional picture on your LinkedIn profile.
Where to Look for Remote Opportunities:: Potential Employer Websites
This week we look at company websites of potential employers to find remote job opportunities.
You may find your next remote job opportunity by looking at a company website for a potential employer.
Where exactly job listings are on a potential employer’s website can vary
Potential employers may list their job positions in different places on their websites. Some of the various places could be:
- “Career” section – A potential employer may list their job opportunities on their website called “Career.”
- “About us” (or another similar name) – A potential employer may list their job opportunities on their website called “About us” (or another similar name). You’re looking for this section on the website that will give information about that company.
- No jobs listed – A potential employer website may not have a job section on their website.
The advantages of looking for opportunities on a potential employer’s website
You may gain advantages by looking for employment opportunities on a potential employer’s website. Some advantages could be:
- You may find opportunities only listed on the potential employer’s website.
- You may find more opportunities listed on a potential employer’s website than in other online places.
- A job description may have more detail when listed on a potential employer’s website than in other online places.
- You may get a more updated list of job opportunities from the potential employer’s website than from other online places.
Remote-Friendly (And Other Similar Names) Companies
A potential employer may vary in the likelihood of offering remote job opportunities. You may increase the odds of finding remote job opportunities from employers that describe themselves as Remote Friendly. Companies may describe their Remote Friendly companies in other similar terms, like Remote Only and Hybrid. You may find potential employers in your profession by looking at career associations. Career Associations sometimes list membership rosters that you can use to find potential employers.
Regional Career Associations
Sometimes a national career association will also have regional career associations based upon different geography sections of the United States. Regional career associations sometimes will have their website pages. You may also find a membership roster from a regional career association. The membership roster may give you additional information about potential employers in that profession.
You may find your next remote job opportunities on a potential employer’s website. A potential employer’s website may be your key to finding your next remote career opportunity.
Where to Look for Remote Opportunities: Vocational Rehabilitation
This week we look at Vocational Rehabilitation.
We are looking at Internet resource that may help some people on their remote job journeys.
What is Vocational Rehabilitation?
Vocational Rehabilitation is state government offices in the United States that help people find job opportunities with body limitations (or difficulties). People with body limitations (like back problems making it difficult to lift heavy items) may find the services in Vocational Rehabilitation helpful in your remote job journey.
A person may meet with a specialist who can help them with their remote job journeys.
Where to find Vocational Rehabilitation Offices?
You can often find a state government that will create a Vocational Rehabilitation web page that will give information about their state’s Vocational Rehabilitation services.
Check with the Vocational Rehabilitation office in your state to see what specific services your Vocational Rehabilitation office has and the specific guidelines to qualify for their services.
For those looking for a Vocational Rehabilitation office for your state, you can do a Google search (or some other similar search engine) and type in the word phrase “Vocational Rehabilitation” and then the state you live in. If you are searching on Google, type the phrase “Vocational Rehabilitation” in quotes so Google will search for the entire phrase “Vocational Rehabilitation” instead of two separate words of Vocational and then Rehabilitation. You can search for the phrase “Vocational Rehabilitation” in quotes makes for a more precise search.
You can also look for listings of Vocational Rehabilitation offices on the Internet.

This week we look at another general job website called Power to Fly.com (www.powertofly.com). Power to Fly.com allows people to search for jobs in various career fields. You can also search for Remote job positions.
I give the descriptions based on looking at a computer screen from a full-size computer. Your computer screen may or may not match the description.
How to find jobs on Power to Fly.com
You have two methods to find job positions
- Keyword Search
- Browse by Categories
We will look at each method in detail in the following paragraphs.
Keyword Search Described
Go to Power to Fly.com
Click www.powertofly.com in your browser
Then on the Power to Fly.com home page will be a link on the top of the screen called “Jobs.”
Click “Jobs.”
Professional Search Box
You will then have a screen with a professional search box called “Search by title, skill, or company.”
You can find the professional search box towards the top part of the screen.
Type in a keyword related to the profession you have an interest in the professional search box.
Geographic Search Box
A geography search box is next to the professional search box.
Type “Remote” in the geography search box to indicate interest in remote positions.

Click the Red Box with the white magnifying glass to start the search.
Hopefully, you will obtain a list of choices on the left side of the screen.
Select a job choice to get a more detailed job description.
The detailed job description will be on the right side of the screen.
The jobs may be hybrid or remote.
You may find some jobs are repeated in the job list.
Browsing Jobs by Category Described
You can search for jobs by category
Click www.powertofly.com in your browser
Then on the Power to Fly.com home page will be a link on the top of the screen called “Jobs.”
Click “Jobs.”
In the upper 1/3 part of the screen, you will have a “Browse All” link underneath the professional and geography search boxes towards the right side of the screen.
Click the “Browse All” link.
You will then have a list of different categories to search for a job position. Some link choices will be by professional field, geography preference, and specific company.
Click a category that interests you.
Hopefully, you will get a list of job choices that interest you.
You then can type out “Remote” in the geography search box to indicate interest in Remote positions.
Hopefully, you will get a list of remote job choices.
You then can select a job choice to get a more detailed job description.
Browse categories from the Power to Fly.com home page.
You can also find browse categories from the Power to Fly.com home page.
Go to the Power to Fly.com home page and scroll down.
You then will have a listing called “Popular Remote Jobs” columns.
Select a category to find a listing of remote jobs.
Other features of interest on Power to Fly.com
- Virtual Job Fairs – Power to Fly.com will often have a virtual job fair a person can attend. The virtual job fairs are usually once a month.
- Power to Fly YouTube Channel – Power to Fly has a YouTube channel that has videos on different career ideas. The YouTube address is https://www.youtube.com/@PowerToFly_/about.
- Events – Power to Fly.com will have different virtual events you can watch to learn about career ideas.
You can select from the Power to Fly.com home page the “Events” link towards the top of the screen.
You will then get a list of choices. - Resources on Remote Work – Power To Fly.com has articles on the remote work field. You can select the “Resource” link towards the screen’s top part. You can then find the category listing under the “Browse categories” section. You may have to scroll down to find the “Browse categories” section.
You will then find a link called “Work from home “ category choice.
Selecting the “Work from home” section will give you articles about remote work. - E-mail newsletter- you can also be added to the Power to Fly.com e-mail newsletter to gain career ideas.
Power to Fly.com is a general job site listing job positions in many career fields. You may also find remote job positions from Power to Fly.com.
